Decorative Wire Components

Any shape that can be drawn can be replicated in wtre. Once you're familiar with wire work you will be able to begin making a variety of shapes to add visual interest to clasps, necklaces, earrings and more.

Leaf Hook Clasp

The leaf clasp will add a whimsical touch to any project.

1. Working off a spool of 20-gaugc wire, cut off the tip of the end and file it smooth.

2. Put a hook clasp on the end of the wire, as instructed on page 37, but do not cut off the cxccsj wire, as noted in step 7. Use your fingers to put a gende curve into the wire just below the clasp.

3- Determine the length of your leaf (this one is about 2"). Use the rip of the round nose pliers to put a sharp bend into the wire.

6. Cut off the excess wire and file the end smooth

5. With the needle nose pliers, grip the wires where they cross. Wrap die wire around the base of the hook clasp two times to anchor. Bend the rail of the wire so it is pointing toward the rip of the leaf and then add a small right-angle bend in the wire.

I additional texture and decorative elements to your W iggles can be created freehand or by using a jig. Dragonfly Clasp

The dragonfly clasp is a trendy component. Use this project as a mode; to create Other similar shapes, such as a butterfly.

1. Cut a 10" length of 20-gauge wire and file cut ends.

2. Mrasure 4" from one end and grip it there with die tip of che round nose pliers. Bend che wire over the rip of the pliers to create the tail of the dragonfly.

6. With the round nose pliers, grip the intersection where the wings connect with the tail. Use the wire thar created rhe wings and bend ic up above the wings and around the cips of the pliers to form rhe small loop that will be the head. Bend that wire down along side of the dragonfly tail.

6. Bend the wire around to form die "palm" of the hand. Bend the wire around the other wire to anchor.

7. Cut off rhe spool, leaving about a 2" tail, and then file the cut end.

8. Grip the end with rhc round nose pliers and add a spiral. Refer back to the instructions for making a spiral on page 41, if necessary.

9. Use the needle nose pliers to neaten up the bends in the lingers and adjust the fingers.

10. Optional: You may want to work-harden this wire element so it does not bend out of shape.
