Using a metal clay bail can add a professional and finished look to your jewelry. Creating metal clay bails is a simple process. Texture can be added to the clay using rubber stamps, texture sheets and rubbing plates. The designs can be accentuated after firing using a solution of liver of sulfur, dissolved in warm water, to add a patina to the bails. Shapes can easily be cut from a flattened sheet of metal clay with small clay and pattern cutters. To create a nice permanent curve in the bails, you can place the pieces over plastic drinking straws as they dry.
