10 13mm faceted teardrops

10 6mm or 4mm rounds or bicones

10 6mm faceted rondelles

10 5mm or 3mm bicones

• Japanese cylinder beads 4g in each of 2 colors: A, C 3g in each of 2 colors: B, D

• Fireline 6 lb. test or Nymo B conditioned with beeswax

Round 6: Alternate 3 As and 2 Bs (c-d). Round 7: 2 As, B. Begin forming the points by working an increase, adding 2 Cs for this stitch. Then add a B (e-f). Round 8: A, B, 3 Cs, B (g-h). [5] Sew through to the first B of the next point, and work a support round on the inside of the points: Pick up five Cs and sew through the next B. Sew through the beads on the round to the B of the next point. Repeat around the ring. End with your thread exiting the B after the last point. Red beads are used in photo a to show the support round.

The round following a support round will always start with the thread exiting a B to the right of a point. Round 9: Alternate 2 As and 4 Cs (figure 2, a-b).

Round 10: A, B, C, increase by adding 2 Cs, C, B (c-d). Repeat around the ring. Work a support round after the step up. Round 11: Alternate 2 As and 5 Cs (e-f). Round 12: A, B, 4 Cs, B (g-h). Repeat around the ring, and work a support round after the step up. Rounds 13-16: Repeat rounds 1 1 (i-j) and 12 twice (photo b).

Round 17: 2 Cs, decrease by sewing through the next two Cs, 2 Cs, 2 As (figure 3, a-b).

Round 18: 3 Cs (stitching the second C in the decrease) B, A, B (c-d and photo c). Work a support round after the step up. Round 19: 2 As, B, 2 Cs, B (e-f). Round 20: 2 As, B, decrease by sewing through two Cs, B, A (g-h). Round 21: 2 As, B (in the decrease), 2 As (Hi-

[6] Refer to the pattern in figure 5 as you work rounds 30-35.

Round 33: Decrease by sewing through the next two Bs (d-e), B, D, B (e-f).

Round 34: 2 Bs (g-h), decrease by sewing through the next four Bs (h-i).

Round 35: Sew through the Bs and stitch a B at each point (j-k).

[7] Secure the working thread in the beadwork by tying a few half-hitch knots (Basics) between beads, and trim.

Top half

HI Turn the beadwork over, thread a needle on the tail, and work the top half of the ornament in peyote stitch as follows (refer to the pattern in figure 6

as you work rounds 1-9):

Round 1: B, 2 As, B, decrease by sewing through two Bs. After adding the last B, sew through four Bs to step up.

Round 2: B, A, B, D (in the decrease, as shown in photo e).

Round 3: Alternate 2 Bs and 2 Ds.

Round 5: Cs, totaling 20 beads.

Round 6: Alternate 3 Cs and a B.

Round 7: Alternate 2 Cs and 2 Bs.

Round 8: C, B, decrease by sewing through two Bs, B.

Round 10: Alternate 2 Ds and a B.

Round 11: Alternate a D and 2 As.

Round 13: Alternate 2 Bs and an A.

Round 14: Decrease to ten beads, sewing through the next two Bs, and then stitch 2 Bs.

Round 15: Alternate a B and a D (in the decrease).

Round 16: Cs, totaling ten beads. Round 17: Alternate a C and a B. Round 18: Bs, totaling ten beads.

Round 19: Decrease to five beads, sewing through the next two Bs, and then stitch a B.

Rounds 20 and 21: As, totaling five beads.

[2] Sew through the five As on the last round again, and snug them into a tight ring. Secure the thread in the beadwork, and trim.

Finishing

[1] Make a wrapped loop (Basics) at one end of a 3-in. (7.6cm) piece of wire. String a 4mm or 5mm round bead and the ornament, bottom end first. Position the wrapped loop and bead below the last round on the top of the ornament. String a 4mm bicone crystal if desired, and make a wrapped loop (photo f).

[2] To add fringe: Secure 1 yd. (.9m) of thread in the beadwork near the bottom edge of the ornament, and exit a B at one of the points (figure 7, point a). Pick up 13 Bs, a 4mm bicone, a B, a 5mm or 3mm crystal, a B, a 6mm or 4mm crystal, a B, a 6mm rondelle, five Bs, a teardrop-shaped crystal, and five Bs (a-b). Skip the ten Bs and the teardrop, and sew back through to the seventh B above the 4mm (b-c). Pick up six Bs and sew through the B at the next point (c-d). Repeat with the remaining points.

[3] Weave through to the edge B between two points (figure 8, point a). Pick up ten Bs and the fringe pattern from the 4mm bicone to the teardrop (a-b). Skip the ten Bs and the teardrop, and sew back through to the fourth B above the 4mm bicone (b-c). Pick up six Bs and sew through the corresponding B on the other side of the point (c-d). Repeat with the remaining points.
